Terms of service
Last updated: 5 November 2026 · Applies to Yarn for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, Yarn accounts, and this website
Who we are
Yarn is made by an independent developer in Australia ("we", "us"). Contact: hello@yarnvoice.app. By creating an account or using Yarn, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.
Your account
- You sign in with your email address and a one-time code. Keep access to that email secure: anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- One account is for one person. You can use it on all of your own devices.
- You need to be at least 16, or have a parent or guardian's permission.
- You can delete your account at any time from Settings in any Yarn app or on the account page. That removes your account and everything synced to it.
Trials, plans and payment
- New accounts get a free trial (currently 7 days). Each email address can have one trial.
- After the trial, dictation needs an active plan. During early access, plans are given through promo codes. Paid plans will be priced in Australian dollars, shown with any tax before you pay, and charged through our payment provider (Stripe).
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; your plan keeps working until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Plans include fair-use limits, currently 3,000 minutes of dictation a month, and a limit on how fast requests can be made. These stop the service being overloaded or misused. Yarn tells you when you reach a limit.
- If we change prices, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
- Refunds: you're entitled to a refund or remedy where Australian Consumer Law gives you one, such as when the service has a major failure. Otherwise, email us and we'll treat requests fairly.
Using Yarn
You can use Yarn for anything lawful you'd normally write. Please don't:
- use it to break the law, harass people, or record people without the consent the law requires where you are;
- try to get around plan limits, share an account, or resell access;
- attack, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer Yarn's server, or use it to reach the AI services behind it for other purposes;
- use it to create content that breaks the usage policies of the AI providers we rely on (OpenAI and Anthropic).
We may suspend or close an account that does these things. Where it's reasonable, we'll warn you first and explain why.
Your words stay yours
What you dictate, and the text Yarn writes from it, belongs to you. We only use it to provide Yarn to you, as described in the privacy policy. We don't use it to train AI models, and we don't sell it.
Check before you send
Yarn uses AI to transcribe and tidy your words. It's good, but it can mishear, misspell a name or word something differently from how you meant it, especially when rewriting selected text. Read what it types before you send, publish or rely on it, and don't use Yarn as the only record of anything critical, such as medical, legal or safety information.
The service
- We work to keep Yarn available and fast, but it relies on the internet and on other companies' services, so it may sometimes be slow or unavailable.
- We improve Yarn over time. We may change or remove features; if a change significantly reduces what a paid plan gives you, you can cancel and get a pro-rata refund for the unused time.
- The apps update themselves or through the app stores. Older versions may stop working with the server after a reasonable notice period.
Liability
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law, and nothing in these terms limits them. Apart from those guarantees, and as far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss (such as lost profits or data) from using Yarn, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or, where the law allows, to supplying the service again.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change applies. If you don't agree, you can stop using Yarn and delete your account.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws in force in Australia. If something goes wrong, please email us first; most problems can be sorted out quickly.
